Mental Health Awareness Week: Students share their mental health and wellbeing tips ahead of exams

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week, which is an opportunity for the whole of the UK to concentrate and raise awareness on achieving good mental health. It��s key for starting conversations surrounding mental health and provides the chance to reflect on aspects that influence our wellbeing from day to day.???

We spoke to some of our students at 51�Թ�� Business School and they shared some invaluable advice that they would like to pass on to the 51�Թ�� London community, about how they support their own mental health and wellbeing as students, as well as during the exam period. ?

What are your tips for looking after your mental health and wellbeing as a student???

My top 3 tips for looking after your mental health and wellbeing would be:?

Change up your environment. When you're studying for exams or working intensely through an assessment task, it can get quite mundane to be in the same room for hours on end. Mix it up and go to the local cafe, library, park or different areas of the campus. Get some fresh air throughout the day and find an environment which makes you feel more relaxed and focused.??

Talk to people: As humans, we are social creatures and it's important to maintain social connections for our wellbeing. Regularly catch up with your friends and family (virtually or in person). Sign up to a club or organisation on campus to meet new people who are like-minded and have similar interests. Go to networking events. Say hi and introduce yourself to the student next to you in the lecture theatre. Even the most introverted personalities need some level of human interaction throughout the week.??
Organise your days and weeks in a calendar. Make sure that you have allocated enough time to balance out studying, socialising and spending some alone time for self-care. If you can see what you have on throughout your day, you will feel less overwhelmed. More importantly, allocate yourself small breaks throughout the day and stick to the schedule! That way you don't feel guilty about watching YouTube skits, and you won't procrastinate either.?

Do you have a favourite location on campus or in London where you can go to when you feel anxious and stressed??

I personally find that spending time outdoors in parks or gardens helps me clear my mind - it also helps me with my mindfulness and breathing exercises, which takes away the stress and anxiety. The Prince's Gardens on campus is a great place to unwind. Off campus, I enjoy a walk around Kensington Gardens - there are spacious walking paths, it's usually quite peaceful throughout the day, and you get some great views of Kensington Palace! Back in my country of residence, Australia, I like to go to the local beaches to get some much-needed fresh air and hear the sounds of waves (and sometimes feel them on my feet as I walk along the shoreline!)?

If you could go back in time and give yourself a piece of advice before taking your exams, what would it be????

If I could go back in time, I would tell myself the most important thing is to remember it's about the process, not the outcome. Exams are just a small part of the journey. There is so much more to the Business School to experience - the connections and friendships you foster, the memories of activities that you will fondly reflect on (perhaps someday if not now) and the career opportunities you get exposed to. Yes, I absolutely agree that you must dedicate your time to studying and achieving good grades, but at the end of the day, what matters most is if you have tried your best. Your success should not be defined by a single set of exams but it's about your personal and professional growth during the 51�Թ�� journey.??

Do you have an inspirational quote that helps and motivates you???

One of my favourite quotes, and something which motivates me to keep going is an ancient Chinese proverb by Confucius, who says something along the lines of "It does not matter how slowly you go, as long as you don't stop" (translated). My late grandfather would often quote this to me to remind me that progress is still progress, no matter how slow it may be. When it comes to preparing for exams, it can sometimes be slow going trying to understand a particularly difficult concept. However, if you continue to persevere, you enhance your resilience and ultimately you are more prepared than you were before.??

What are your tips for looking after your mental health and wellbeing as a student???

As a student, your mental health and wellbeing are important for your academic success and overall quality of life. Prioritising self-care activities such as getting enough sleep, eating a healthy diet, and engaging in regular physical activity is key.??

Another tip is to manage your time effectively; being organised can help reduce stress and anxiety levels. You can use tools like calendars, to-do lists, and productivity apps to stay on top of your coursework and other commitments.??

It's also essential to stay connected with friends, family, and other social networks, especially during stressful times like exams or deadlines. Talking to someone can help you relieve stress and gain perspective on your situation.?

Furthermore, developing a positive mindset and focusing on gratitude can help improve your mental health and wellbeing. Take time each day to reflect on the things you are thankful for, practice mindfulness, and engage in activities that bring you joy.?

Do you have a favourite location on campus or in London where you can go to when you feel anxious and stressed??

As someone who enjoys reading, I find the library to be a great place to go to when I'm feeling stressed or anxious on our South Kensington campus or in London. The peaceful atmosphere, abundance of books, and quiet study areas help me to calm down and focus my mind on something other than my worries. I usually spend some time browsing through the shelves, picking up a book that catches my interest, and finding a comfortable spot to sit and read.?

If you could go back in time and give yourself a piece of advice before taking your exams, what would it be???

If I could go back in time, I would remind myself to stay calm and trust my preparation. It's easy to get caught up in feelings of stress and anxiety during exam season, but it's essential to remember that I attended all the lectures and studied all the topics throughout the semester. I have gained the knowledge and skills needed to tackle the exam questions.??

It's also helpful to keep in mind that exams are often about applying logic and critical thinking, rather than memorising information. By focusing on the broader concepts and how they connect, rather than trying to recall every detail, I can approach the exam questions with greater confidence and clarity. In addition to maintaining a positive mindset, it's also important to take care of oneself during the exam period. Getting enough sleep, eating healthily, and engaging in regular exercise can all help to reduce stress levels and improve cognitive function?

This is an essential reminder to stay grounded in who you are and what you want to achieve, despite the distractions and pressures of the world around you.??

What are your tips for looking after your mental health and wellbeing as a student???

The first step to overall well-being is self-love and self-appreciation. I believe that starting your day with some form of self-affirmation and positive self-talk can make a stimulating difference. I personally sit for a couple of minutes to meditate every morning and it helps me start my day on a positive and refreshing note. Secondly, I would also recommend indulging in a hobby or developing a skill you personally admire or feel passionate about. I like going for a run once every day or doing functional training in the gym. It helps me drain all the stress that comes with the rigorous coursework and managing personal and social responsibilities.???

Do you have a favourite location on campus or in London where you can go to when you feel anxious and stressed??

I love going to the Tower Bridge pier which has ?the most beautiful view of the Shard and Tower Bridge. The calm along the waterfront helps me rejuvenate and find my calm amidst the chaos. The skyscrapers give me a sense of ambition and persistence, inspiring me to aim high and never settle for less.?

If you could go back in time and give yourself a piece of advice before taking your exams, what would it be???

The only piece of advice I would share with my younger self and everyone else in general would be to not doubt yourself and your mental capabilities during exams. It��s quite natural to feel underprepared before appearing for an exam but the trick is to believe and constantly reassure yourself that you have given it your best and even if certain things do not go your way, you can find a way out of the difficulty.?

What are your tips for looking after your mental health and wellbeing as a student???

My top tip for looking after one��s mental health is to take time off to just de-stress every day. This could be just 15 mins to half an hour. One can do any activity they want in this time �C go for a walk, meet friends, watch a TV show, go for a workout etc. However, I think it is crucial to take these 15 minutes of self-care time daily, to de-compress and let the body and mind relax. ?

Personally, I really enjoy going to the gym, going for yoga classes and gardening to de-stress. Time that I spend doing these activities is sacred and I don��t look at my phone or emails during this time. I force myself to stop thinking about school work and I am 100% in the present moment.??

Do you have a favourite location on campus or in London where you can go to when you feel anxious and stressed??

When I am stressed and just need to breathe and connect with myself, I head to the Serpentine in Hyde Park .The beautiful trees, the open space, the waddling ducks, the white swans and all the adorable dogs out for their walk always cheers me up. If the weather is not conducive for a walk in the park, then I go to South Kensington bookstore and just spend some time without any device and browsing books.?

If you could go back in time and give yourself a piece of advice before taking your exams, what would it be???

Well, the first thing I would tell myself would be to prepare in advance and to keep up with the programme material throughout the school year, so that the exam period is not so overwhelming. ?

During exam week itself, I would remind myself that the amount of time I am wasting worrying, and planning what to do, can be used to study and get the work done instead.??

It is a bit of a vicious cycle �C we get stressed because of the work, but the more we get stressed, the less work gets done. So, it is crucial to remain calm, break the work up into small, achievable portions and to get the work done. ?

Finally, I would also remind myself, that exams are not the end of the world. Grades are not the only representation of my abilities and my learnings. The goal is to learn and to grow. Grades are secondary.?

Our third-year BSc Economics, Finance and Data Science students recently headed to Paris to see how the skills they��ve been building in data, AI and analytics throughout their degree come to life in the real world. The trip reinforced classroom learning by illustrating how econometrics, machine learning and coding translate into real-world practice.

Visiting leading organisations such as L��Or��al, Alstom, AXA and the International Finance Corporation, students Kaavya Iyer and Jiaqi Chen got an inside look at how companies use AI and technology to drive innovation and tackle complex challenges. We caught up with Kaavya and Jiaqi who gave us the inside scoop on their trip to Paris.

Kaavya Iyer

Having studied Economics during my A Levels, I had a keen interest in further understanding the mechanics of why economics and markets operate the way that they do, whilst complementing my interest in mathematics coding skills. The syllabus of the BSc Economics, Finance and Data Science programme looked like the perfect fit, and joining as the first cohort has definitely lived up to my expectations. I have really enjoyed learning about the rigorous foundations of machine learning, econometrics and applying those concepts to economics and finance.

Jiaqi Chen

I chose the BSc Economics, Finance and Data Science programme because it offered me a unique, interdisciplinary experience that enabled me to pick up programming skills alongside my passion for social sciences and empirical analysis. I was also very excited to live independently and experience the amazing culture and history of London.

The programme greatly emphasises applied knowledge to contribute to contemporary issues. The supportive faculty, inspirational group of friends I��ve made and abundant opportunities to explore the various free museums and arts scene, have truly made my experience at 51�Թ�� worth it.

What were your expectations from the trip to Paris?

Kaavya:
Over the last two years, we have studied coding languages such as R, Python and PSQL. I was hoping that the trip to Paris would allow me to see, directly, how Large Language Models are built and used by companies and how they compare to those we have studied on the programme.

Jiaqi:
I was also brimming with questions for industry experts. With all of the conversations around AI, the labour market and skill requirements from graduates, I was hoping to both gain reassurance on the future awaiting graduates and an idea of how I want to move forward in my professional development.

What did you learn about how companies use data, AI or analytics in their work?

Kaavya:
We visited all sorts of companies, from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank to Schneider Electric and L��Oreal. I was surprised to see the extent to which each one has embedded GenAI and AgentAI into their day-to-day operations across all divisions, from HR and Marketing to Research and Engineering.

Jiaqi:
What struck me most was how differently each organisation applies analytical and technological tools. From relying on clear, data-based modelling to estimate consumer demand to driving efficiency and inspiring creativity to improving their product offerings, each company used AI in tailored and innovative ways to improve their overall performance.

Can you tell us about a company visit that resonated with you?

Kaavya:
During our visit to AXA, we were tasked with finding insights and solutions to the flash flooding that occurred in Valencia in 2024 using genuine client data. This exercise showed us how data science can be incorporated into the insurance industry to manage claims, especially during mass crisis events. It also meant that we could apply the skills we��ve learnt from the degree into a real-world scenario.

Jiaqi:
For me, the visit to Alstom �C a global leader in rail transport �C was especially eye-opening. Coming in with limited exposure to the infrastructure industry, I was fascinated by the creative ways technology is being integrated into their operations. Whilst exploring the uses for AI in Alstom��s system operations and maintenance, they shared how their models help optimise energy efficiency in Singapore��s Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system. This connected with me on a personal level being from Singapore myself and having an increasing interest in sustainable development.

Outside of the company visits, how did you explore Parisian culture?

Kaavya:
The river cruise on the Seine was one of my favourite moments �C it was lovely to see the landmarks and socialise with my friends, and there was no rain!

Jiaqi:
My favourite moment was a guided tour of Montmartre, a neighbourhood perched on the hills of Paris with breathtaking views and a fascinating, if often tragic, history �C it was a welcome contrast to the city��s bustling centre.

As a third-year student, why were these company visits so valuable for your future career?

Jiaqi:
These company visits helped me bridge the gap between theory and practice. I��ve become more conscious of the need for me to develop good prompt engineering skills and awareness when interacting with AI so that my creative and critical thinking is enhanced rather than replaced.

Kaavya:
Gaining real-world insights was especially helpful �C it helped to identify how the skills I��m learning may be relevant in the private sector and confirmed that continuous learning in areas such as Python and coding, even after graduating, is an advantage.

Jiaqi:
The visits also broadened my awareness about possible career paths, from roles that focus on organisational value, creation and adaptability, to opportunities that require deeper technical expertise or further study. I am also even more inspired to eventually join a global organisation such as the World Bank to contribute to poverty alleviation and sustainable growth.

How did the Paris trip shape the way you see data science and your future career path?

Kaavya:
Between the company visits and cultural experiences, Paris was not only a chance to spend time with my peers away from London, but also gave me insight into how data science can be applied across a wide range of careers I might pursue after graduating.

Jiaqi:
The trip showed me that our degree is relevant and applicable to many industries which seek skills in analytics and technology, and value critical application of these skills to enhance business efficiency. Concepts from modules like Econometrics and Machine Learning were vividly brought to life in contexts ranging from retail and insurance to infrastructure and energy.

At 51�Թ�� Business School, we are passionate about creating opportunities for students to engage with industry, apply their learning in real-world contexts and develop the skills that will drive them forward in their careers.

We recently caught up with Jamillah Thabet, one of our BSc Economics, Finance and Data Science students, who won this year��s Bank of England Innovation Competition and completed a summer internship there.

Jamillah��s experience shows how students can apply the technical, creative and communication skills gained on the programme and apply them in a real-world business environment.

What is the Bank of England Innovation Competition?

The Bank of England Innovation Competition invites students from across the UK to develop creative, AI-driven solutions to real-world challenges faced by the Bank. Each year has a different theme. This year, the challenge asked how the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) could use Generative AI to improve financial supervision.

The PRA regulates banks, insurers and other financial institutions to ensure the financial system remains safe and stable.

To take part, we were tasked with designing a practical solution to the question, explain the concept in a written proposal and then bring it to life through a short video presentation. The process tested not only our technical and analytical skills, but also how well we could communicate complex ideas.

Why I decided to take part

The challenge brought together two things I really enjoy: using technical skills and communicating complex ideas clearly.

It was a chance to put into practice the technical skills I��ve built through the BSc Economics, Finance & Data Science programme - from statistics and linear algebra to algorithms and data analysis. I��ve always believed that deeper learning happens when theory is applied to real-world challenges, and this competition offered exactly that.

It also gave me space to explore new areas, like how AI can be used within financial regulation, which aligns perfectly with my long-term career ambition to drive technological progress and innovation in the sector.

Developing my AI solution

When I began working on my proposal, I did some research into how the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) is expanding its role to support not just financial stability, but also innovation across the sector. That led me to frame my central question: how can we encourage innovation and competition while keeping the financial system safe and resilient?

To answer that, I proposed a two-part AI innovation system that could help PRA spot risks earlier rather than reacting to problems after they happen. Together, these tools would help make regulation faster and more proactive, balancing innovation with stability:

The first innovation was a ��digital twin�� C or a virtual, AI-powered version of each regulated firm. This digital model could test how a company responds to different scenarios, including cyber attacks and market volatility, allowing supervisors to see how firms handle risks in real time.
The second innovation used machine learning to create a live risk map that identifies unusual patterns and emerging threats across the financial system. It acts as an early warning system, allowing PRA to identify and respond to issues before they become serious.

Utilising 51�Թ��s expertise during the contest

I��m grateful to be taught by professors with deep real-world experience, such as Professor David Miles, who previously served on the Monetary Policy Committee. Having access to his expertise was invaluable during the contest.

As part of my Macroeconomics module, I had the chance to learn directly from him, and when I began developing my proposal, I reached out to discuss my early ideas. He helped me to think more critically about how my solution would function and be applied to regulatory contexts.

My key takeaways on innovation

This competition taught me that innovation begins with a growth mindset and being open to learning, asking questions and seeking input from others. Some of my strongest ideas came from conversations with people whose perspectives helped me reshape how I approached the challenge.

I presented my ideas in a five-minute video. I planned, scripted, filmed and edited it myself, using sections and animations to bring the technical ideas to life. I learned that effective communication isn��t just strong research it��s crafting a story that engages the viewer and shows why the idea matters.

From competition to internship: my summer at the Bank of England

After winning the challenge, I completed a summer internship with the Bank of England, working in the Innovation team under ARTIS, which focuses on applying technology to supervisory work. I conducted research, produced reports and prepared a presentation on synthetic data for senior managers.

I really enjoyed learning more about central banking and seeing innovation in action. One of the highlights was speaking with senior leaders, including the Executive Director of ARTIS, whose insights on careers and technology in finance taught me a lot about leadership, adaptability and continuous learning.

Key takeaways and the impact of my internship

Both the competition and internship confirmed my interest in the intersection of finance, data science and regulation, and showed me how to apply technical skills in a real-world, policy-focused environment.

The biggest lesson I learned was the value of being proactive and seeking guidance from others. Conversations with colleagues gave me insights beyond reports and presentations, helping me grow professionally and personally.

The internship gave me hands-on experience in regulatory innovation and the chance to contribute meaningful work in the public interest. It has motivated me to keep developing my AI skills and explore how predictive models can be responsibly applied in financial regulation.

My advice to other students

My advice is to make the most of every opportunity, especially those that push you out of your comfort zone. Innovation challenges are a great way to apply what you��ve learned, explore new ideas and gain real-world insight. Don��t be afraid to ask questions and seek feedback - your fellow students, lecturers and staff are always willing to help.

Choosing 51�Թ��: a natural next step in tech leadership

My experience in an AI consulting company deepened my interest in the role technology plays in driving business growth and social impact. I��ve seen firsthand how technology is reshaping industries, unlocking new opportunities and improving lives. But to make a bigger impact in the industry, I knew I needed to expand my leadership skills and broaden my understanding of business strategies across different industries.

When I decided to pursue a Full-Time MBA, I wanted to immerse myself in an environment that would help me stay at the forefront of this innovation. 51�Թ�� Business School stood out to me because of its reputation for research and innovation, as well as its strong emphasis on STEM. The opportunity to engage with both tech experts and business leaders within the Business School��s dynamic environment felt like the perfect place to hone my skills.

Being awarded the Latin American Scholarship from 51�Թ�� Business School and the Chevening Scholarship from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office from the UK government further reinforced that this was the right move for me. I��m extremely honoured to have been selected by these two prestigious awards and given the opportunity to contribute to the 51�Թ�� community with knowledge from my background and experiences.

Learning from a diverse, collaborative community at 51�Թ��

The collaboration between classmates has been excellent. Even before the programme officially began, many of us connected through Unibuddy. My Full-Time MBA cohort includes students from a wide range of nationalities, industries and professional backgrounds, which has led to dynamic conversations and new ways of thinking.

The collaborative spirit of the programme goes beyond the classroom too. In one professional development session, we were asked to present a goal and identify the types of people we needed to connect with in order to achieve it. I was touched by how quickly my classmates offered support; it was a clear indication of 51�Թ��s collaborative nature.

This was further reinforced by networks like the Women in SET (Science, Engineering & Technology), which allows students to connect with and advocate for women who have similar career ambitions in STEM.

Empowering future female leaders in the tech industry

I believe that self-knowledge and self-awareness are key to becoming a successful leader. And whilst the tech industry continues to be a male-dominated field, it is an area full of opportunity for women ready to lead and innovate.

Through 51�Թ��s LEADS initiative (Leadership, Ethics, Awareness, Diversity, Society), I��ve had the chance to gain a deeper understanding of my personal leadership style and how to inspire others effectively. Understanding our individual strengths and areas for development in terms of leadership capability is essential for excelling in the business environment.

Taking the lead through the Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) Club

A particularly rewarding experience has been serving as President of the Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) Club. Career Clubs play a central role in the student experience at 51�Թ�� and offer an opportunity to take on leadership roles and grow professionally outside of the classroom. ?

My involvement in the TMT Club has allowed me to connect with students from other programmes who also share a passion for technology and innovation. Collaborating on events that bring together peers and industry professionals has been a brilliant way to learn directly from leaders in the field. As a growing European tech hub, London also offers unparalleled access to innovative companies and cutting-edge developments that we can access through the Club.

Advice for future female tech leaders

For women working in the tech industry who may be about to embark on their MBA journey or are considering studying a Full-time MBA, my advice is simple: trust yourself.

The path you��ve taken in tech is valuable and your experiences are unique. The diversity and inclusivity of 51�Թ�� Business School means that every perspective has value, so embrace what makes you stand out. An MBA can provide space to expand on those strengths and gain new perspectives.

Last week, our MSc Strategic Marketing (online, part-time) students swapped our bespoke online learning platform, The Hub, for the lecture theatre as they gathered on campus for an immersive week focused on a hot topic in the industry �C Generative AI in marketing.

The week saw students collaborating with The Brandtech Group, a world leading Generative AI marketing company, who offered students the chance to develop real-world experience with AI-driven content generation. From creating text, image and video content to market insights and real-time performance data, the week allowed students a chance to get an insight into how Generative AI can influence marketing practices both now and in the future.?Students also had a chance to showcase their newfound skills by pitching a marketing campaign to industry experts from Unilever.

As online students who are often juggling part-time studies with a full-time job, this on-campus week was a chance for them to come together, network with their peers and industry professionals, work with innovative tools and takeaway some key learnings that can be applied directly to their jobs.

We caught up with Davina Kallah, one of our MSc Strategic Marketing (online, part-time) students, to hear about the week, from her personal highlights to key learnings that she is taking forward in her career.

Hi, I��m Davina Kallah, an MSc Strategic Marketing (online, part-time) student at 51�Թ��. Marketing has always been central to my work, driven by data and trends. 51�Թ��s innovative approach, combining strategy with technology, made it the ideal choice for my master��s.

As a part-time online student, I��ve collaborated with global peers and deepened my marketing knowledge. While the flexibility suits my full-time role, I��ve been curious about campus life, and this in-person week gave me the chance to experience it.

My personal highlight from the week?

We��ve all seen AI��s transformative impact across industries, and this week was a chance to explore how it can enhance efficiency, drive growth, and uphold ethical standards in marketing. Through insightful talks from industry leaders and hands-on experience with cutting-edge tools, I gained a deeper understanding of AI��s potential to reshape the field.

From experimenting with AI-driven tools to thought-provoking discussions with experts, this experience has given me a fresh perspective on how technology can elevate marketing strategies and drive innovation.

Monday: embracing AI and emerging technology

The future of AI in marketing has always fascinated me, and what a way to kick off the week! We all use AI in some form��but are we using the right tools in the right way?

Keynotes from industry experts provided valuable insight into this, showcasing how AI is revolutionising marketing. From video adaptation and social listening to consumer research and even podcast creation, AI is enabling businesses to scale like never before. But using AI sustainably is a challenge I hadn��t fully considered.

I often use AI to streamline tasks without considering its ethical implications��energy use, cost, and environmental impact. This raised key questions: Why should businesses invest in AI, and can it balance efficiency with sustainability? The answer lies in responsible usage��using the right tools with the right input to maximize benefits and minimise waste.

The experience didn��t end there! We took part in a surprising team-building exercise with VR headsets. Each of us played a unique role��Data Analyst, Manager, or VR participant. Our goal: solve complex puzzles in eight minutes. Despite being first-time VR users, we cracked 3 out of 4 puzzles through communication, strategy and teamwork.

My key takeaway from the day:

The highlight was hearing an industry expert share her marketing journey, highlighting the importance of networking, mentorship, and adapting to new tech. Her advice on AI resonated deeply��it��s not just about automation but using it strategically for innovative solutions.

This session inspired me to embrace AI and emerging tech more confidently, while thinking critically about their role in shaping the future of marketing. AI isn��t just about efficiency��it��s about creativity, strategy, and impact.

Tuesday: the ethics of AI in marketing

AI is evolving rapidly, revolutionising the marketing world �C but it��s still learning, still growing. Today��s session shed light on AI��s flaws, particularly bias and stereotypes. While AI has incredible capabilities, it reflects on past data, meaning bias can creep into marketing campaigns. The good news? Companies are actively working to address this, ensuring AI is used ethically and transparently.

We got hands-on experience with Pencil AI, a tool designed to generate AI-powered creatives while staying true to brand guidelines. The platform can store brand assets like tone of voice, target audience, and even preferred music. Using the text function, we explored these assets, gathered insights, and crafted precise prompts to create images and videos.

At first, creating the right visuals was a challenge. But I quickly learned that AI-generated content is only as good as the prompts you give it. The more specific we were, the closer we got to our vision. It was a glimpse into the future of marketing��where AI helps businesses cut costs, boost efficiency, and create consistent brand messaging with ease.

My key takeaway from the day:

AI is powerful, but it��s not perfect. It��s up to us as marketers to use it ethically, reduce bias, and craft thoughtful prompts to get the best results. Today��s session reinforced that AI is a tool��not a replacement for human creativity and critical thinking.

Wednesday: the super sprint challenge

With just one day to go before our pitch to Unilever, The Brandtech Group and industry experts, today was all about teamwork. The challenge: to develop a full marketing campaign in just 24 hours - applying everything we��ve learned over the past two years, especially integrating AI-driven tools like Pencil AI.

Our team had different creative visions for the campaign: how it should look, feel, and, most importantly, how we would pitch it. The time crunch made it feel impossible, but AI became our secret weapon. With Pencil AI, we streamlined our research, structured our presentation, and even generated branded visuals��all in one place.

But, as I quickly learned, AI can be unpredictable. Some of our prompts led to incredible results, while others were complete mistakes. It was a trial-and-error process, but after multiple attempts (and a few hilarious AI-generated surprises), I finally cracked it��creating the perfect prompt that led to the perfect AI image.

My key takeaway from the day:

The highlight of my day was creating that perfect prompt. Through practice and refinement, I was able to bring our vision to life and generate AI visuals that aligned seamlessly with the brand. While AI is continuously learning and growing, today showed me that it requires patience, trial and error, and a clear vision. Within one day, we were able to create a succinct, compelling presentation that captured how the brand can grow but stay true to its foundation.

Thursday: pitch day!

This morning was all about fine-tuning the details��perfecting the graphics on our slides, rehearsing our script, and ensuring every component was polished for the big presentation.

Throughout the programme, we��ve explored countless marketing theories and frameworks, but today put everything to the test. One key insight I took from my studies is to always back up your ideas with data or further research. That mindset gave me the confidence to pitch our campaign with conviction.

Our presentation covered:

Competitor analysis
Objectives and target audience
Campaign concept and creative execution
Customer journey and engagement strategy
Refinements in product design and QR code integration

It is a lot to accomplish in less than 3 days. But thanks to Pencil AI, most of our research and creative assets were already in place.

My key takeaway from the day:

While pitching was a key highlight, I thoroughly enjoyed connecting with 51�Թ�� Alumni that evening. Through a panel discussion and a networking event, I gained profound insight into how each have leveraged this programme in their careers. Whether it is through marketing analytics or applied strategic marketing, each alumnus had used various modules to excel in their roles. It reinforced that this programme isn��t just about theory��it��s about building practical skills that translate into real-world success.

Friday: the final day and career insights

I can��t believe how fast the week flew by!

Our final day was a mix of insights into managing high pressure environments, career progression and networking. From refining our approach to professional conversations to discussing job opportunities, it was a valuable reminder of how important connections are in marketing.

The value of an in-person week at 51�Թ��

This week was intense, challenging, and incredibly rewarding. From hands-on AI training to real-world marketing applications, I gained skills that I��ll carry forward into my career. More than anything, being on campus created opportunities for deeper collaboration, networking, and learning beyond the classroom.

AI is changing the marketing landscape, and this experience has shown me how to harness its power effectively. AI isn��t just about efficiency �C it��s about using it strategically, ethically, and innovatively.

What does International Women��s Day mean to you and how are you celebrating this day???

International Women��s Day is for me a chance to champion female voices and women��s contribution to all areas of life and culture. I like to celebrate by crowdsourcing a list of amazing female-led podcasts, documentaries, films, books, music and business initiatives from friends and colleagues, and sending the list out to everyone I know. I always discover amazing new women who are changing the world in ways big and small and I love being able to share these too.???

Oh and I listen to Flo and Joan��s comedy song ��Lady Crisps�� on repeat.??

How does 51�Թ�� Business School make you feel empowered???

I��m honoured to be President of the Dean��s Student Advisory Council this year. Holding this position means that I get to be visible as a female leader every day, working with an incredible council of diverse and talented students to help ensure that all voices are heard and amplified where necessary. Every day is a learning day, but I feel empowered to push myself, to learn from my peers and my mistakes and to be held to account in a safe and

Who are your female role models and why? What is your proudest achievement?????

This is my book club pictured above. They are simultaneously my most trusted female role models and my proudest achievement. I started this book club when I moved to London, as a monthly meet up for friends and friends of friends who were new to the city and didn��t yet have a support network around them. Over the past 5 years we have become the best of friends and each other��s biggest champions, and they impress and inspire me every day.? ?

We support each other through personal and professional highs and lows. These wonderful women are the cheerleaders you need to guide you through break-ups and house moves. The ones who help you stand up to your awful boss and turn tears of frustration into tears of laughter. They are the first to call for a celebration when one of us does something amazing and were all there for each other online or socially distanced throughout lockdown.?

They have taught so much over the years, always encouraging me to do and be better for others and for myself. I am so proud of and grateful for every single one of these women, and of having been able to bring us all together. I don��t know what I would do without them. I certainly wouldn��t have made it through the MBA application process, let alone the first 6 months of the programme.? ?

What does International Women��s Day mean to you and how are you celebrating this day??

International Women's Day is a significant and meaningful day for me as a woman. This day serves as a reminder of all the women who have advocated for equality and made it possible for me to enjoy greater chances and freedoms than prior eras. It is a day to honour the significant contributions that women have made to society and to acknowledge the success of women in a variety of fields, including politics, academia, business, and the arts.??

I would like to honour all the women who have made important and unsung contributions to my life on this International Women's Day. They equipped me with the opportunities and motivation I lacked to pursue my goals and aspirations and to have belief in my ability to change the world.?

What��s your biggest achievement to date??

My biggest achievement to date was the moment I received my acceptance letter from 51�Թ�� Business School. As 51�Թ�� is the sixth best university in the world (QS World University Rankings 2023), I knew that the competition was fierce, and the admission process would be challenging. However, with hard work and perseverance, I was able to overcome the hurdles and secure my spot at this prestigious institution. The fact that I received a 100% scholarship (Rajeev Gandhi Scholarship for Academic Excellence) added to the sense of accomplishment and made the achievement even more meaningful. Looking back on that moment, I still feel a sense of disbelief and gratitude. It was a dream come true, and it was a testament to the power of dedication and determination.?

What is a quote that you live by?or a piece of advice you��d pass to another woman??

Marilyn Monroe's famous statement that "Well-behaved women seldom make history" is a strong assertion that challenges the traditional view of how women should behave in society. The quote encourages women to be fearless, take chances, and leave their mark on the world. It inspires women to question conventional gender roles and expectations and to tenaciously follow their ambitions.??

Who are your female role models and why??

In Hinduism, we believe that every soul lives seven lives and gets reincarnated again and again until they reach enlightenment. I want my mother to be with me in every single one of them. My mum is my greatest role model in every sense of the world, personal, professional, physical, and emotional. She is an incredible source of inspiration for me, and I look up to her for guidance and support. Her unwavering strength, resilience, and compassion have been the driving force behind my own personal and professional development, and I am grateful for her influence every single day. I hope to continue to learn from her and impersonate her best qualities for the rest of my life. ?

What does International Women��s Day mean to you and how are you celebrating this day???

I grew up in a country, where International Women��s Day is celebrated with great festivity, therefore March 8th?is a special day for me. In fact, Armenia also commemorates Motherhood and Beauty Day on the 7th of April, which extends the celebration of women to a whole month. International Women's Day not only acknowledges the past achievements of women but also empowers us to strive for our goals despite any obstacles we may face. However, often the meaning of this day is confused and simply viewed as a celebration of the mere existence of women in men's lives, rather than acknowledging their accomplishments in professional fields and recognising their significant role in science. My ultimate hope is for the world to attain such equality that Women's Day would no longer be necessary, and every individual would have equal rights and opportunities regardless of gender.??

What��s your biggest achievement??

One of my notable achievements is founding an organisation that supports students studying abroad and contributes to the advancement of education quality in Armenia. Recently what made me feel proud was conquering my fear of heights during a challenging mountain hike that reached an altitude of 4070m.?

Who are your female role models and why??

I am inspired by those who have the courage to embrace themselves, persevere in pursuit of their goals despite opposition or obstacles, and are willing to stand up and fight against injustice instead of being indifferent to it. Joan of Arc and Mother Teresa are historical figures whom I greatly admire. The first exemplifies the courage, bravery, and fearlessness we need as leaders and the second demonstrates how love and kindness have the power to change the world. Furthermore, Alenush Terian, an exceptional astronomer and physicist, fosters motivation within us to cultivate a passion for science and technology.?

mIn daily life, my mother is a true inspiration showing great power in overcoming obstacles and teaching us to dance in the rain.??

What��s your biggest achievement??

Making it to 51�Թ�� Business School is one of my greatest achievements in life amongst others. As a child I cultivated a dream of moving abroad to pursue higher studies and 51�Թ�� Business School has made that dream come true. Today, as I walk to campus every morning, it gives me immense pleasure to think that I��m soon going to be an alumnus of one of the most prestigious universities in the world.?

Who are your female role models and why???

My greatest role model has and will always be my mother for she endowed me with the strength to conquer everything I ever undertook. From supporting me in my professional classical dance career to allowing me to study abroad, she and my father have paved the way to give me the best life possible. Fighting the challenges of a tough childhood herself, she made it a point to give me the best of everything she couldn��t get. I have always been an admirer of the woman she is and how graciously she carries herself both professionally and personally.?

What does International Women��s Day mean to you and how are you celebrating this day???

As a young woman, I find March 8th ?to be an empowering celebration of countless achievements of women worldwide. It is also a day to acknowledge the existing gender inequalities still prevalent in our societies and an opportunity to discuss what we can do to combat them. This year, my girlfriends and I are attending the Women of the World Festival hosted at the Southbank Centre. This space brings together activists, writers, and other exceptional individuals to celebrate the global feminist movement.?

What��s your biggest achievement and who is your role model??

Despite progress, girls around the world continue to face unprecedented challenges in accessing education. In response to this challenge, during my bachelor's degree, I co-founded a company that guides students to access and secure scholarships in the most prestigious universities across the US and UK. This enterprise idea was inspired by my role model, Malala Yousafzai, a Pakistani female education activist who became the youngest Nobel Prize laureate at the age of 17. She drew global attention to the threats and challenges to girls' education in Pakistan, and her bravery and passion still guide many girls to fight for their rights.?

How does 51�Թ�� Business School make you feel empowered??

I am surrounded by talented women who work in finance and who have shattered the glass ceiling. This network has inspired me to co-found the Real Estate Society and create a pathway for other women to enter the male-dominated sector of commercial real estate. This is important to me as I also want to break through this industry, and I want to equip students with the necessary skills to have equal opportunities to enter this sector.?

What is a quote that you live by?or a piece of advice you��d pass to another woman??

?This powerful quote from Malala captures the motivation that everything is within our reach, and we need to be proactive to act upon our dreams; ��Some people only ask others to do something. I believe that, why should I wait for someone else? Why don't I take a step and move forward?��?

International Women��s Day is a day to celebrate women voice and empowerment! I will be celebrating this day by cherishing the presence of my female friends and family members through expressing my utmost gratitude to them through sending words of affirmation and free hugs if I see them in person!??

What��s your biggest achievement??

My biggest achievement is being the first female member of my family to pursue a master��s degree! To add on to that, I am pursuing a master��s degree overseas! Through this achievement, I wish to set an example for my cousins and my future children that the sky is the limit and education is equal for all �C all you need to do is work hard and stay strong in your own beliefs and virtues!?

Who are your female role models and why??

This will sound very clich��, but my female role model is my mama! (or ��衱 in Mandarin Chinese). She left her corporate job and sacrificed so much of her blood, sweat and tears to raise us. As a stay-home mum, she is constantly working 24/7 (not to mention, this is a full-time job without monetary compensation). She is my biggest mental health supporter and adviser and I would not be who I am today without her.??

51�Թ�� Business School makes me feel empowered through offering classes such as ��Working in Diverse Organisations��, which gives me insights on how to handle situations where I feel mistreated or judged as a woman.????

Over the course of the next year, you are going to grow massively as a professional. As a Full-Time MBA student, you��re going to be presented with countless opportunities to develop your skills. Presenting to a room of up to 70 people is not something that happens every day, but over time, your confidence will grow.

Take every opportunity to get involved. The diversity of professionals across all the MBA programmes is incredible, and those interactions help to build lifelong connections.

You��re about to embark on a learning journey filled with memorable moments. One key piece of advice I��d give to you is to believe in yourself. You have the capability to do all the things you put your mind to, so have confidence in yourself and in this journey you��re about to begin. Before you know it, you��ll be graduating and looking back with pride on all that you��ve achieved.

One of the biggest highlights will be the incredible bond you form with your Global Online MBA cohort. Even though the programme is mostly online, you��ll support each other through some key life moments �C marriages, job changes and even some of our children��s graduations. Those connections will go far beyond coursework. So, make the effort to build relationships, they will become one of the most enriching parts of your experience.

For me, the three main reasons why 51�Թ�� Business School is such a great place to study are because of the people, the faculty and the transformational experience that awaits you.

The people you��re surrounded by are diverse and have so many different perspectives. Learn from them and take advantage of the 51�Թ�� community; build relationships that will help you to be the best that you can be as a person.

The faculty are very experienced in terms of their backgrounds, capabilities and the support they provide. They��ll help you to grow as a leader as well as transform the way you approach business, the people you work with and the way that you look at life holistically. And if you utilise the career support available, you��ll feel more confident in the career choices you��re making, from job searches all the way through to negotiations.

The blend of science, technology and business is so unique �C it's one of the few places where you can get this intersection and the programme is designed to help you engage with these diverse areas. Dear First-day Self,

Having studied both my undergraduate and MBA at 51�Թ��, graduating marks a significant milestone.

Thinking back over my time on the programme, my advice to you is to keep pushing yourself forward. As a Weekend MBA student, you��ll be juggling study with work and a family, which can feel like a lot sometimes. Just keep going. The reward at the end is truly worth it.

51�Թ�� Business School is going to help you in so many ways. You��ll develop so many new skills that you can take forward in your career, have the chance to network with people from across the world and be presented with opportunities that will push you outside of your comfort zone �C something that will encourage you to grow.

The Global Experience Week will be particularly impactful. The things you learn on the company visits and exposure to different business culture, outside of the UK will be invaluable and open your eyes.

It��s also a chance to really define what you want to do with your career and pursue it with the guidance of the dedicated Careers team. If I could say anything to my first-day self about to begin this journey, it would be to put your heart and soul into this because it will be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life. You will make lifelong friends and gain invaluable skills; you��ll meet some of the most inspiring people and discover unexpected passions thanks to the opportunities available at 51�Թ��.

There may be moments when you feel tired or hesitant, especially when meeting new people or stepping into unfamiliar situations. But do it anyway. Push through those reservations because the year goes by so quickly and it��s important that you make the most of it. You'll become more adventurous, more empathetic and much more confident when approaching new opportunities and networking situations.

You��ll also share unforgettable experiences with your cohort. You��ll form lasting bonds with your cohort in an unforgettable way on a cruise in Singapore during your Global Immersion Week, reflecting on what you��ve learnt throughout, and it will be something you won��t forget anytime soon.

The way to approach your time at 51�Թ�� is to see every door as an opportunity. Every conversation, every club and every resource available to you is a chance to grow.

Take your academic modules seriously. The real-life decision-making simulation you undertake is going to allow you to gain hands-on experience and make you think outside of the box, all of which are invaluable in today��s competitive job market.

From these opportunities, you can expect to grow on both a personal and professional level. You'll ask more questions, gain more confidence in yourself and be happy to discuss various topics and learn more from those around you with every interaction.

Get involved in the 51�Թ�� community and take time to learn from the alumni you��ll meet �C ask questions about their career journey and ways that they have grown. They set a wonderful example of what you can achieve with the knowledge gained at 51�Թ��.?

Make full use of the Careers team and the resources they have on offer. They really will become the backbone of your student experience �C offering one-to-one sessions, practice interviews and guidance on how to improve your applications. Their insights are invaluable and as an international student, they will help you navigate the UK job market.?

You��re about to really improve on your networking skills and even if you start by feeling shy, keep stepping outside your comfort zone. It��s important to build up a strong network and personal branding is a key skill that will take you forward in life. And by the end of the year, it will start to feel more natural.?

51�Թ�� is ahead of the curve when it comes to resilience, sustainability and integration of AI in the modules, and this is going to help you develop the key skills needed to stay ahead in the job market as well.?

It is exhilarating to be looking back at my time at 51�Թ�� and writing to my first-day self �C I really am thrilled to be graduating.

The advice I would give to my first-day self is to have confidence. Believe in the resources and the faculty you are about to come across?because they truly have your best interests at heart.

51�Թ�� is well-known for its academic rigour �C the knowledge of the faculty is really amazing and will propel you into being career-ready. You��ll come away being able to apply the knowledge and skills that you��ve learnt with confidence.

It will be a year full of unique and beautiful experiences �C attending the Summer Ball with your classmates being a particular highlight.

51�Թ�� has a very good focus on helping you build up strong networking skills and making you aware of all the different employers and fields available to you. Through events like the Careers Fair, you will be exposed to these industries so that you can practice your networking skills and figure out which direction?you want your career to take. What��s really great is that the Career support is still accessible to me now as a graduate.

Your time at 51�Թ�� will stretch you to use your own initiative, be proactive and tackle a varied workload �C all transferable and important skills when you join the job market.

Learn from those around you because you��re going to be exposed to people from completely different countries and cultures, broadening your perspective on how people approach work.

The programme can be challenging at times, but really it all comes down to how you organise your life and manage your time. If you do it right, you can balance a vibrant social life with academic success.

Sustainability Fortnight is here! Over two weeks, 51�Թ�� staff and students can join workshops, events and discussions to inspire action on sustainability. From gardening and fairs to quizzes and swap shops, there are plenty of ways to get involved.

As part of the celebrations, we hear from Kirk, an MSc Climate Change, Management & Finance graduate (Class of 2023). This unique programme, run in collaboration with the Grantham Institute, combines business expertise with climate science and policy to equip future leaders for the green economy. In this blog, Kirk shares his experiences at 51�Թ��, career support, and sustainability journey - offering insights for aspiring professionals. He also shares how he incorporates sustainability into his daily life.

About me

Growing up around the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, USA, I developed a love for animals and the outdoors at an early age. As I learned more about climate change and the threats it poses to nature and humans alike, I committed to a career in sustainability to help create a healthier, more resilient and more vibrant world.

Choosing 51�Թ��s MSc Climate Change, Management & Finance programme

In pursuit of this goal, I chose to study the MSc Climate Change, Management & Finance in 2022 to understand how financial systems can catalyse sustainability efforts, and how achieving ambitious environmental goals can yield better business results.

My 51�Թ�� education was immediately practical, with topical core modules such as ��Impacts and Adaptations to Climate Change��, taught by world-renowned scientists and business experts. Complementing what I learned in the classroom is the inspiration and camaraderie I continue to feel from fellow peers: a supportive community of students and alumni fuelled by a shared commitment to a more sustainable world.

My career journey after graduating

When I first stepped foot on the South Kensington campus, I had a million ideas of potential careers swirling in my head. The Careers team was instrumental in helping me narrow my focus and identify job opportunities aligned with my strengths through one-to-one conversations, industry workshops, and employer events such as the Climate Careers Fair.

51�Թ�� offers Careers coaching, which increased my confidence to proactively initiate informational interviews and expand my network through LinkedIn. 51�Թ�� C and particularly?MSc Climate Change, Management & Finance �C alumni are everywhere in the sustainability space. Connecting over a shared academic background quickly helps coffee chats feel conversational, and it was through these discussions with alumni and classmates that I found my job.

Working in sustainability comes with its challenges, including wading through a seemingly constant barrage of pessimistic headlines about missed climate targets and temperature records. Despite this, I find glimmers of optimism in every conversation I have with fellow hardworking sustainability professionals, steadfast in our stalwart effort to make an impact and recognising every success, no matter how small, is a step towards a better world. It��s deeply rewarding when those successes come to fruition and the environment and economy are stronger as a result.

51�Թ��'s support

In my experience, the job search requires a concoction of perseverance, grit, and a sprinkling of luck. Thanks to the Careers team��s support and the Business School alumni network, I landed my job at Orbis Advisory, a boutique sustainability consultancy where I��m now a Development Manager. My 51�Թ�� degree helped my application stand out when I applied, and thanks to introductions made through the Business School alumni network, I landed my role. My?MSc Climate Change, Management & Finance education contributes directly to my work; much of what I learned in ��Carbon Accounting and Reporting�� is practically relevant for my day-to-day tasks of calculating carbon footprints, devising decarbonisation strategies, and assisting clients with regulatory compliance.

My advice to anyone seeking a job in the sustainability sector

I would advise anyone seeking a job in the sustainability sector to realise sustainability can �C and should �C be integrated into any role, not just those that say it in the job title. Many firms�� sustainability teams are becoming less siloed and more interwoven into the fabric of the business; this is an opportunity for students in all fields of study and professionals from any background to contribute to sustainability efforts. Whether you have a PhD in climate science, want to capitalise on investment opportunities, or simply love animals and are interested in helping out, your perspective is needed and has a role to play.

Making sustainability a personal habit

In addition, there are myriad ways to make sustainability a personal habit. I find it useful to ask myself, ��is there a more sustainable way to do this?�� when going about my daily routine to identify small habits, such as sorting my rubbish, as well as larger lifestyle changes, such as reducing meat consumption, that ease the strain on the environment.

The accumulation of these efforts, coupled with systemic changes from businesses and governments, are needed to solve the challenge of climate change. In addition to voting, being a mindful consumer and supporting businesses that commit to ambitious sustainability goals can be an effective way to make your voice heard. There are many resources, such as the Grantham Institute��s Action Hub, that provide useful recommendations from experts on how to make a difference.

Sustainability is a marathon, and addressing the urgency of the climate crisis requires us to sprint. Working together, we can take greater strides towards building a more prosperous world for all.

Leonardo Ramirez Lopez is a geoscientist specialising in the use of machine learning to address environmental and agricultural issues. He holds a PhD from the University of T��bingen and has worked as a postdoctoral researcher at ETH Zurich, focusing on efficient soil sensing methods. His work supports sustainable land management and includes collaborations with the UN��s Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).

He is currently studying part-time for an MSc in Business Analytics at 51�Թ�� Business School to broaden his data and strategy skills and extend the impact of his work. He shares what motivated him to pursue the MSc after completing his PhD, and how he��s approaching the programme at 51�Թ�� from a scientist��s perspective.

An expansion from deep scientific research to studying business and strategy

I work at BUCHI Labortechnik, a leading manufacturer of laboratory equipment. To help drive innovation and support the company��s growth through digital transformation, I need a solid grounding in business analytics to complement my scientific background.

I remain deeply committed to scientific work, but I'm increasingly focused on translating that expertise into business impact. For me, research only has real value when it informs meaningful, data-driven decisions. Studying business and strategy is helping me manage knowledge more effectively, balance trade-offs, and lead innovation with both technical depth and strategic insight.

My motivation to pursue MSc Master��s in Business Analytics (Online) after already completing a PhD

This is a question I��ve often been asked during my master��s: why study a master��s after a PhD? Doing a PhD makes you realise just how much more there is to learn. Continuous learning isn��t just valuable, it��s essential to scientific progress. I wanted to move beyond environmental sensing and data science to gain structured knowledge in business analytics, decision-making, and strategy��skills that help turn technical work into real-world impact.

One of the main reasons I joined the programme was to build a solid foundation in Business Analytics and apply my skills in new areas.

Studying business at a world-class STEM university has been invaluable. While my background is rooted in scientific research and data-driven problem-solving, I��ve expanded my skills to include strategic thinking, leadership, and business analytics. I��m now learning how to connect technical expertise with business needs��not just building solutions, but successfully implementing them within organisations. This has shaped my path towards driving innovation where science, technology and business meet.?

Myth busting at 51�Թ��

I heard that part-time study offers little chance to connect with peers or faculty. This was not the case for me. The induction week was vital in building strong bonds with fellow students. I travelled to London several times for on-campus courses, workshops and events, including spending a month living with four colleagues, one of the highlights of the programme. These connections have been key to my learning and fostered a real sense of community.

Curriculum concepts that have broadened my thinking

The modules on leadership, negotiation, and communication have highlighted just how vital clear communication is at every level. Effective conflict management isn��t only about keeping the peace, it��s crucial for keeping projects on track and avoiding costly delays.

The programme has also helped me appreciate the value of transferable skills. As specialists, we often focus on narrow fields, but I��ve learned to seek out challenges in other areas where my expertise can make a difference. This shift in mindset has broadened my perspective and enhanced my ability to contribute across disciplines.

How my MSc supports my collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organisation

In recent years, I��ve worked with the UN��s Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), supporting the use of optical spectroscopy as a faster, cheaper, and more sustainable alternative to traditional soil testing.

Our focus is on making these tools accessible in low- and middle-income countries, helping farmers manage soils more effectively and sustainably.

I also create training materials for scientists, technicians, and students worldwide. My studies have strengthened my strategic approach, improving project management, communication, and the scaling of training efforts.

My advice to scientists considering studying at 51�Թ�� Business School

Balancing family, work and part-time study is demanding, but ultimately rewarding. It can be tough at first, but with some adjustment and sacrifice, it becomes manageable. You��ll develop strong time management skills along the way.

A scientific background is a real asset. The analytical thinking, structured approach, and clarity in communication it provides translate well to the programme. If you're passionate about science, this master��s will broaden your perspective and show how your skills can make an impact beyond your field.

Make time for yourself, even short breaks help you stay grounded. And never underestimate the value of your scientific expertise. Use it, share it, and connect with others. Building relationships with classmates from diverse backgrounds is one of the most rewarding parts of the experience.
