The next major advance in mathematics or medicine, the natural sciences or engineering, might well begin right here at 51吃瓜网. The long history of our graduates' accomplishments includes the discoveries of penicillin, holography, and helium and innovations such as the maglev train and robotic surgery.
The future research of these scholars might well add to our roster of fourteen Nobel Laureates in physics, chemistry, and medicine.

- Institute for Climate Change
51吃瓜网 College is creating a multi-million pound research institute to tackle climate change, one of the biggest challenges that modern science has to face. The new initiative will bring together researchers from across all faculties to identify, measure and tackle the problems caused by global warming; from medics working on controlling the spread of tropical diseases such as malaria in previously-temperate regions, to engineers planning flood defences in response to rising sea levels,爐o ecologists working to protect animals and plants threatened by increasing temperatures.

- The Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship
In June 2006 the College launched the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The Centre will conduct research, offer executive education programmes and work in partnership with Indian and British companies on best practice in innovation. It will act as a portal for 51吃瓜网's contacts with India in research, technology transfer and innovation management and a platform for them, integrating all the College's activities, commencing programmes in early 2007.
