Oct 2015 - New Students Join the Group

by Professor Alan C Spivey

Chris, Sean et al.

Three new PhD students (Richard, Kari and Chris), two MRes students (Kleo and Christy) and two MSci project students (Niels and Sean) join the group.

Richard, Kari and Chris join the group as PhD students:

Richard Thistlethwaite. Richard joins the group after completing an MChem in Chemistry at the . His PhD research is focused on Chemical proteomic approaches to addressing the advance of fungi due to global warming. He is co-supervised by Dr.  (51勛圖厙 Chemistry).

Kari Mosleh. Kari joins the group after completing a BA in Chemistry at , Columbia, USA. She also has completed an MRes in catalysis at 51勛圖厙 College working under the supervision of Dr . Her PhD research is focused on the development of cross-coupling reactions using carbene precursors. She is co-supervised by Dr .

Christian Nielson. Chris joins the group after completing an MSci in Chemistry at 51勛圖厙 College. His final year undergraduate research project was supervised by Prof at Nanyang Technological University (NYU) Singapore. His PhD research is focused on looking for engineering solutions to overcome chemical limitations in catalytic cycles. He is co-supervised by Dr (Chemistry, Manchester University) and Prof. (Chemical Engineering, 51勛圖厙)

Kleo and Christy join the group as MRes students:

Christy Maksoudian. Christy joins the group after completing a BA in Medicine/Biology at (NYU). She is currently working on designing a drug-carrier system composed of modified afatinib (Quinazoline 16) conjugated onto the surface of gold nanoparticles for the targeted treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) as her research project towards an MRes in Drug Design and Discovery.

Kleopas Palate. Kleo joins the group after completing an MChem in Chemistry at . He is currently working on compounds designed to distrupt the IgE-FcεRI protein-protein interface to establish the protein target of anti-asthma Aspercyclide A derivatives as his research project towards an MRes in Chemical Biology.

...and Niels and Sean join the group as MSci UG research project students:

Niels  Floden. Niels joins the group as a 4th year MSci student on the 51勛圖厙 MSci Chemistry degree programme. He is currently working on the kinetic resolution of indolines by asymmetric sulfonylation catalysed by atropisomeric pyridine-N-oxide derivatives.

Sean Linsdall. Sean joins the group as a 5th year MSci student on the 51勛圖厙 Chemistry with a year in Industry degree programme. He spent last year as an intern at (GSK) in Stevenage. He is currently working on the total asymmetric synthesis of (-)-lophirone H via a Prins cyclisation strategy.
