We can only support permanent academic staff in our Department for these schemes.

Application process

For 51³Ô¹ÏÍø College Research Fellowship, Royal Society Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowship and Royal Society University Research Fellowship.

The Department will conduct a shortlisting process and review applications three times a year: March, June and November.

Expression of interest deadlines: March review panel (15 March); June review panel (15 June); November panel (15 November).

Please submit the following materials in one PDF document via e-mail to chemeng-researchfellowships@imperial.ac.uk:

  • A cover letter (2 pages max), including the following five details:
     1.Your readiness to become an independent researcher
     2.Which scheme(s) you are interested in applying to
     3.Why the Department of Chemical Engineering is the best host for your project/group
     4.Name of potential host in our department and written confirmation from them (a confirmation email or letter is acceptable): You must have contacted your potential host prior to submitting the Expression of Interest and they must have agreed to your application being submitted to the Department.
     5.Names and e-mails of two academic references we may contact upon shortlisting

  • A research plan (2 pages max)
  • A full-length CV (including a full publication list, no page limit)

For RAEng Research Fellowship

The Department will conduct a shortlisting process and candidates must apply by 27 April 2026 17.00 BST, by submitting the following materials in one PDF document via e-mail to chemeng-researchfellowships@imperial.ac.uk with “RAEng research fellowship application – FIRSTNAME SURNAME”  as the subject line:

    • A complete application (the template can be downloaded from this page) and any other permitted supplements (see form for full details),
    • A CV
    • An email confirmation of support from collaborators (full letters of support from collaborators will be needed in subsequent steps)
    • Two paragraphs: 1) a paragraph highlighting your track record (200 words max), and 2) another about your proposed fellowship project (200 words max). In these paragraphs, you should indicate how your track record and project fit with the activities in our department.
    • If the applicant is not a permanent academic staff member: Name of potential host in our department and written confirmation from them (a confirmation email or letter is acceptable): You must have contacted your potential host prior to submitting the Expression of Interest and they must have agreed to your application being submitted to the Department.
