Person holds globe under their armAs an undergraduate in the Department of Earth Science and Engineering at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø, you’ll have opportunities to develop your interest and skills in languages, humanities, business and music too.

Geoscience is a global subject and we support all students to improve their overall understanding of the world.

The 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Horizons programme allows students to enrol on modules within three subject areas:

  • sustainable human development,
  • humanities & social sciences and
  • languages.

This programme is optional and runs co-curricular where you will learn alongside students from other Departments and Faculties over the span of 8-10 weeks.

In Year 3, you will take an I-Explore module as part of your degree programme – a for-credit module outside of your discipline.  I-Explore modules are offered in 4 different areas:

  • 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Horizons (mentioned above)
  • Business for Professionals of Science & Engineering – delivered by 51³Ô¹ÏÍø College Business School, these modules give you the chance to gain a greater understanding of the financial, strategic and operational context of your core discipline
  • Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and Medicine (STEMM) – modules taken outside of your chosen discipline, which include topical areas of science being pioneered by our researchers that are not currently offered within our undergraduate programmes
  • Multidisciplinary Project – an opportunity to work with a team of students from other Departments aiming to tackle societies biggest challenges
It’s awesome to be able to study at the Royal College of Music as well."

If you play a musical instrument the College offers five Ash Music Scholarships each year, with a chance to study at the Royal College of Music where you will enjoy free tuition.  If you are unsuccessful in gaining a scholarship, you can still make use of the practice rooms and grand pianos at the Blyth Music Centre located on the South Kensington campus.
