The People and Culture Committee is a subcommittee of the University Management Board. The People and Culture Committee is 51³Ô¹ÏÍø's high-level committee for equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and is chaired by Professor Hugh Brady, President of 51³Ô¹ÏÍø.

University leaders on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
Bernadette Byrne, Associate Provost (EDI)
Bernadette is Professor of Molecular Membrane Biology in the Department of Life Sciences. She joined 51³Ô¹ÏÍø in 2000 and has undertaken a number of roles including Director of Postgraduate Studies for the Division of Molecular Biosciences, deputy Head of Department, and Deputy Director of the Graduate School.
Bernadette's recent role was as Associate Dean for Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity for the Faculty of Natural Sciences where she worked to increase the number of Black heritage PhD students via the Enhance programme, established the Conversations on Diversity programme, put in place an EDI focused External Advisory Board and promoted inclusive recruitment.
Wayne Mitchell, Associate Provost (EDI)
Wayne is a Senior Teaching Fellow in the Department of Immunology and Inflammation, where he is also Senior Welfare Tutor and Graduate Teaching Assistant Coordinator. He first joined 51³Ô¹ÏÍø as a Research Fellow in 2005, and returned in 2015.
For a number of years Wayne has been involved in the running of 51³Ô¹ÏÍø As One, our race equality network for staff and postgraduate students. He was also a member of 51³Ô¹ÏÍø’s Race Equality Charter Self Assessment Team and 51³Ô¹ÏÍø's History Group.
In 2022, Wayne co-hosted the Black Graduate Career Conference. This led to a collaboration researching the impact of Black Lives Matter on people of colour in higher education, and 51³Ô¹ÏÍø hosting the first Symposium on Transatlantic Racial Reckoning (STARR): Imagining Anti-Racist Academic Worlds in 2023.
