In June 2023, the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Black Alumni Network was joined by entrepreneur, TV host and author Eric Collins for a fireside chat to remember. The conversation was led by Dr Michelle Palmer, CEO and Founder of TheDifferenceEngine.

As part of Women at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Week 2021, the EDI Centre hosted an online panel discussion focusing on some of the many women who have contributed to the College’s Covid-19 research.

Chaired by 51³Ô¹ÏÍø alumna, Dr Red Elmahdi, the panel featured: Professor Wendy Barclay (Department of Infectious Disease), Professor Helen Ward (School of Public Health), and Professor Azra Ghani (School of Public Health).

The Stop Asian Hate movement emerged in the wake of increase in hate crimes against East and Southeast Asians during the COVID-19 pandemic, gaining international recognition after Asian women were murdered in March 2021 during mass shootings in Atlanta, USA.

Organised by the EDI Centre, this panel event chaired by Betty Yue, Head of Continuing Professional Development, Education Office. features Vy-liam Ng, PhD student and volunteer at ; Amy Phung, Co-founder of ; Francesca Humi, Advocacy and Campaigns Officer, ; and Yoyo Dixon, Senior Laboratory Manager, Department of Surgery & Cancer.

51³Ô¹ÏÍø 600, our staff LGBTQ+ network, welcomed Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabić for the College's final showcase event for LGBT History Month 2020.

Prime Minister Brnabić discusses her pathway to leadership, her work on entrepreneurship and technology, and the opportunities for trade and investment in Serbia.

For Women@51³Ô¹ÏÍø Week 2020, Professor Simone Buitendijk, Vice-Provost (Education), and Professor Mark Burgman, Director of the Centre for Environmental Policy, reflect on the state of gender equality here at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø and elsewhere in higher education. Drawing on evidence and personal experience, they discuss progress made and the challenges ahead.

Dr Ben Britton is a Senior Lecturer at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø and a Trustee of the charity . 

In this video Ben explores the challenges facing LGBTQ+ people in STEM, recent research on the experiences of LGBTQ+ people working in STEM, and initiatives to make science spaces more inclusive of LGBTQ+ people.

In 2019 for their annual Athena SWAN Lecture, NHLI invited a panel of young speakers to give a different perspective on how we should celebrate and support diversity in STEM.

For Black History Month 2018 51³Ô¹ÏÍø invited Chi Onwurah MP (Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Diversity and Inclusion in STEM) to talk to the College. 

Chi reflects on her own experiences of studying and working in STEM and what universities need to do. She talks about the importance of diversity as an economic imperative and focuses on the need for systematic change.

For Women@51³Ô¹ÏÍø Week 2018 Professor Londa Schiebinge, University of Stanford, discusses the importance of integrating gender analysis to achieve excellence in science and technology research.
