51³Ô¹ÏÍø Coaches are a fully trained cross-section of 51³Ô¹ÏÍø staff who take on coaching assignments in addition to their main job roles. There are currently around 40 51³Ô¹ÏÍø coaches from a wide range of academic and professional services roles within 51³Ô¹ÏÍø who bring a range of experience and insight to the coaching role.
To ensure a high standard of coaching, all coaches have attended the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Coach Development Programme, and 25 of them have obtained the nationally-recognised coaching accreditation, the ILM (Institute of Leadership and Management) Level 5 in Coaching and Mentoring. All coaches attend CPD events and coaching supervision twice a year. Coaching standards are in line with guidelines set by the European Coaching and Mentoring Council EMCC) and 51³Ô¹ÏÍø coaches adhere to the EMCC Code of Ethics.
51³Ô¹ÏÍø coaches use a combination of observation, high-quality questioning, effective listening and constructive challenge to create a conversation designed to support the coachee’s thinking and action-planning.

- Feed back to you in a way that helps you gain clarity
- Encourage you to rise to challenges, overcome obstacles and take action
the coachee needs to:
- Be motivated and committed to the process
- Come to a coaching session with some idea of what they want to focus on
- Contribute to conversations openly and honestly
- Be open-minded
- Challenge themselves
- Set goals and take action
