Richard Ghail and Alison Ahearn took part in the Space Settlement Design Competition on 24-25th March at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø. Richard's team won: his students will go to the grand finals at NASA, Houston. (Alison's team won in 2009 and the students reported a wonderful experience at NASA). The competition is expected to expand to 6 UK regions next year to meet demand from schools, with 51³Ô¹ÏÍø hosting the grand final. Judges include NASA and UK space engineers, 51³Ô¹ÏÍø alumni and staff and, this year, Jeff Wayne who composed the space-themed rock opera, The War of the Worlds based on HG Wells' novel. Wells studied at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø and was first president of the RCS Association in 1909.
