Dr Amin Hajitou, Lecturer in Gene Therapy, has been awarded the Medical Research Council Centenary Award of 瞿100 000

Dr Amin Hajitou, Lecturer in Gene Therapy, has been awarded the Medical Research Council Centenary Award of £100 000.

This prestigious award has just been launched by the MRC to mark its 100 years, supporting the very best of its early career researchers to accelerate their research and career development.

The research of Dr Hajitou’s group focuses on the development of novel therapeutic strategies able to simultaneously target the multiple therapeutic targets identified in glioblastoma and paediatric brain tumours, such as growth factor receptors, signalling pathways, matrix metalloproteinases and integrins. For this purpose, Dr Hajitou’s team uses bacteriophage (phage), safe viruses that infect bacteria only,  as multifunctional nanocarriers to guide the simultaneous and systemic delivery of therapeutic agents (peptides, genes, siRNA) against major molecular targets in brain tumours.
