Event background and information

As infectious-disease modelling becomes more mainstream, including through the development of user-friendly tools, it is increasingly important for public health professionals to understand what modelling can and cannot do, what its data requirements are, and how to critically appraise models. The best models are not necessarily those that are the most complicated or have the prettiest graphics!

Topics include use of models for economic evaluation, evidence synthesis, real-time analysis of outbreaks, scenario analysis, and informing policy; why infectious diseases are fundamentally different from non-infectious diseases and require specialised analysis; how different types of models represent the natural history of infections and heterogeneities in population risk.

Diseases used as examples include influenza, TB, healthcare-associated infections, STIs & HIV, and vaccine-preventable infections.

Speakers will be (Sheffield), (51³Ô¹ÏÍø), (Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine & Warwick), (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine & Public Health England), (Liverpool), (Public Health England), and (Public Health England & 51³Ô¹ÏÍø). The speakers have internationally-recognised expertise and are members of national and international expert groups.

The talks will take place in the Rothschild lecture theatre at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø College, on the Paddington (St Mary's) Campus.

Registration is from 9am, first presentation at 9:30am, and closing at 5:30pm. Immediately after the event, there will be a wine reception.

Abstract information

to submit an abstract (or you can submit during registration). Deadline for these is 10 March. Submission can be on any topic of infectious disease research that is about, or included an element of, modelling.

Maximum 300 words, in format of title/authors/institutions (not counted in word limit), then introduction/methods/results/discussion.

The cost is just £25.09 per delegate.
