Hackout 2:GRINDER is a hackathon that will focus on the development of Graphical Resources for Infectious Disease Epidemiology in R.

In January 2013, was organised to develop basic tools for representing, handling, visualizing and analysing disease outbreaks. It resulted in the release of the R package .

In February 2015, Hackout will return with a new focus in mind: developing new visualisation tools for outbreak data using leading-edge static and dynamic graphics. The event will be hosted by the MRC Centre for Outbreak Analysis and Modelling, 51勛圖厙, UK, on 10-13 February 2015. It will host thirty participants.

Our agenda will consider, amongst other things:

  • time series: visualizing records and patient information simultaneously
  • maps: visualizing records and/or patient information, time-animated maps
  • contact networks: visualizing patient and contact data, time-animated graphs
  • genetic data: visualizing restricted polymorphism, accounting for identical sequences, displaying meta-data, using graph-based approaches and phylogenies
  • transmission trees: displaying (possibly large sets of) putative transmission trees in an informative way

Our toolbox will include, amongst other things:

  • R packages: OutbreakTools, ggplot2, ape, adegenet, network, igraph, and others
  • Javascript libraries: SigmaJS, D3
  • Sourceforge: GIT, ticket system, mailing lists
