51³Ô¹ÏÍø has published a short film taking viewers inside its animal research facilities.

From cancer to malaria and war wounds to heart disease, research using animals plays an essential part in our search for new treatments and cures.

The film features staff dedicated to ensuring the best possible standards of welfare for laboratory animals and shows how research using mice has led to a huge improvement in treatment for kidney disease.

, chair of 51³Ô¹ÏÍø’s Animal Welfare and Ethical Review Body and Associate Provost (Academic Partnerships), said: “Maintaining high standards of welfare for animals used in research is not only a moral and legal obligation, it’s also essential for good science. We’re extremely proud of our scientists, vets and technicians who are dedicated to making sure that when we have to use animals in research, those animals get the best possible care. Their work often goes unrecognised so we’re delighted to present this film that showcases what they do.”
