Prize winner returns

Dr Robert Kosowski

Robert Kosowski, Head of the Hedge Fund Centre at Tanaka Business School, 51勛圖厙 College, has been awarded a prestigious prize for his work.

Robert returned with a Best Paper Prize from the 34th Annual Meeting of the European Finance Association, which took place in Ljubljana, Slovenia at the end of August.

The paper entitled 'Investing In Hedge Funds When Returns Are Predictable' (co-authored with Doron Avramov (University of Maryland), Narayan Naik (LBS) and Melvyn Teo (SMU)) won the prize for The Best Paper Relevant to Foundation and Endowment Asset Management.

Dr Kosowski explained the paper as exploring ”how predictability in hedge fund returns can be used in a hedge fund selection rule to create a hedge fund portfolio with superior risk-adjusted performance.”  He worked with colleagues internationally to compile the paper and hopes to further develop some of the ideas in this paper.

Looking ahead to Dr Kosowski’s next challenge, he is preparing to examine further how investors can model and exploit predictability in different hedge fund strategies.

The prize is sponsored by the Commonfund Institute, a non profit organisation that provides a range of investment funds and supporting services to non-profit clients.  It has been awarded each year since 1996 and is for €5,000.
