The work of our earth science alumni Paul Atherley and Phil Bland was featured in last Friday's edition of The Times.

Appearing in the  for his work mining uranium, the article features Paul's opinions on producing the world's cheapest uranium, the impact on China's economy and the implications for miners as the economic foundations of China shift towards consumption.

Paul graduated in mining engineering in 1982.

Our other featured alumnus, Phil Bland, has  buried in Australia’s vast inland, days before heavy rains would have wiped away clues to its location. The meteorite is one of only 20 recovered after being tracked entering the Earth's orbit and is thought to be a chondrite, created during the solar system's early formation.

Phil was previously Director of the Impacts & Astromaterials Research Centre within the Department.
