A new 'Sensorium' will allow visitors to explore a student's journey at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø through art and sculpture.

The  is a free celebration of science and research at the College, with exhibits, hands-on demonstrations and workshops running alongside a talk programme and a series of music and dance performances.

Sensorium is a cross-disciplinary project bridging art and science - an immersive installation which explores the complexity of scientific pursuit that students undertake during their studies at the College.

Coordinated by students from the and the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø College Advanced Hackspace, the 24-strong team includes students from subjects including design engineering, chemistry and physics. Despite their diverse backgrounds they all had the common experience of what it is like to be an 51³Ô¹ÏÍø student.

Sensorium takes visitors on a tour around mysterious and unfamiliar instillations utilising light, sound and touch before cumulating in an interactive display.

Philippe Hohlfeld, one of the Sensorium designers, said: “Sensorium is such an exciting project – few of us have ever had the freedom and the opportunity to create a project of this scale.

“We believe that imagination is limitless but reality is limited – Sensorium is a chance to make it a bit less limited.”

“It’s a great way to let out the feeling of being a creative.” Phillippe added, “Science can be a creative process and this project and the Hackspace are a great outlet to do something a bit different.

“It’s been an amazing experience and we’ve all been able to teach each other along the way.”
