IGHI host forum to discuss and disseminate research into diabetes and infection.

Diabetes affects nearly 400 million people worldwide and can lead to a number of long-term complications, including cardiovascular disease, stroke, chronic kidney failure, foot ulcers, and damage to the eyes.

The Institute of Global Health Innovation’s Global Health Forum last month focused on the on-set and prevention of diabetes from a global context.

Speakers included Clinical Research Fellow in 51³Ô¹ÏÍø’s Department of Medicine, , who talked about her research into young on-set diabetes phenotypes around the world. 

, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Medicine at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø discussed the role of elevated airway glucose in diabetic lung infection and , Reader in Diabetes talked about the prevention of type 2 diabetes in India.

IGHI’s monthly  provide a platform to bring together 51³Ô¹ÏÍø researchers, students, and staff from across all of 51³Ô¹ÏÍø’s Faculties to highlight, discuss and disseminate findings on current research and innovations on relevant global health topics. The Forums encourage interdisciplinary discussions with the intention that they will foster inter-Faculty research initiatives and leverage the immense strengths of 51³Ô¹ÏÍø College to resolve global health priorities of the early 21st Century.
