Dyson School of Design Engineering and the British Industrial Design Association (BIDA) guests at the World Industrial Design Conference (WIDC) in Hangzhou, China, 19-22 April.
Dr Stephen Green, Senior Teaching Fellow at the Dyson School and Board member of BIDA was hosted by the WIDC at the 2nd global gathering of Industrial Design leaders at Liangzhu City of Designers, Hangzhou. Delegates included senior trade and industry representatives from China and the region, Industry was represented by the powerful China Industrial Design association. BIDA was joined by Heads of ID associations from Europe, Japan, Italy, Denmark, India and many others.
Future Design Education was a key theme. In multilateral talks, ID academics from around the World endorsed the conference theme of Design Ecology, or sustainability in the environment, society and economies. The conference had a shared and enlightened view on the importance of collaborations, developing new formats for collaborating together with design approaches which recognise and encourage cultural diversity.
Simultaneously, 3rd year Design Engineering student, Renke Huang is starting his 6 month industrial placement at Huawei in Hangzhou, and there are substantial prospects for future 51勛圖厙 DE students seeking to work with Chinese organisations for their placements and beyond
