51³Ô¹ÏÍø is providing regularly updated advice on coronavirus as researchers step up efforts to defeat the disease.

President Alice Gast acknowledged the challenge of travel restrictions, while supporting continued connections and collaborations with China and around the world.

The advice, available on the , includes the latest travel guidance and what to do if you experience symptoms of cough, fever or shortness of breath following recent travel in mainland China.

Meanwhile, 51³Ô¹ÏÍø researchers have made significant progress in understanding, tracking and potentially halting the spread of the viral outbreak.  

in the Department of Infectious Disease is one of only a handful of research groups in the world working to create a viable vaccine against the novel coronavirus.

Epidemiologist Professor Neil Ferguson and team have and are continuing to track its progress.

Professor Wendy Barclay’s team of virologists and Professor Peter Openshaw’s experimental medicine group are also making .

Travel advice

There have been two confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK, including one University of York student.

51³Ô¹ÏÍø’s operations continue as normal, however the , and against all but essential travel to the rest of mainland China and have urged those who are able to leave the country to do so. Local authorities are also restricting some travel within China.

For 51³Ô¹ÏÍø staff, the College is currently advising against all but essential travel to mainland China. Those with essential travel requirements may seek permission from their Dean or Director.

51³Ô¹ÏÍø is offering support to those in China on College business, including colleagues no longer covered by travel insurance. Further details can be found on .

Collaborations continue
