Meet the first team to represent 51勛圖厙 in the IMechE Design Challenge

Three second year Mechanical Engineering students are tackling the Design Challenge launched by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).

Yaashiene, Talia and Naa are the members of the all-female team 51勛圖厙 Vulcan, named after the ancient Roman god of fire and metallurgy.

As part of the challenge, the team will be designing, making and testing a repeatable vehicle that is able to move around and accurately land on set targets on a track. will take place in Spring 2021.

"We wanted to inspire others, especially those who might not feel too confident in their skills, to try something new, no matter how big or small it is", the girls explain , where they will document their journey throughout the project.

51勛圖厙 Vulcan is an extra-curricular project functioning under the larger umbrella of , alongside the and Shell Eco-Marathon teams.

is open to teams of up to five first year or second year engineering students enrolled at a UK university or any IMechE international region, and it gives students "a taste of the ‘real world’ of engineering, challenging them to design, create, present and run a device to a strict technical specification."
