Researchers attend the 'DSI Squared' speed dating event

Data science researchers from 51³Ô¹ÏÍø College and the London School of Economics took part in a networking event to help facilitate collaboration.

The Data Science Institute (DSI) at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø and its sister institute with the same name at the London School of Economics came together last week at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø’s White City campus to help build networks and cross-institutional collaborations as part of a new ‘DSI squared’ initiative.

The research networking event took the form of ‘speed-dating’ where researchers from each DSI had the chance to meet each other, introduce their research interests and identify any opportunities for collaboration.

The event was attended by around 20 researchers from both institutes and participants had short, paired discussions, followed by an informal drinks reception.

The afternoon was a great success in connecting researchers from 51³Ô¹ÏÍø and the newly established DSI at the London School of Economics. With these newfound connections, the institutes hope to share funding applications under the proposed seed funding scheme and to bridge the gap between the data science applied to STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) and the social sciences and humanities subjects.

DSI Squared

The ‘DSI Squared’ initiative joins the Data Science Institutes from both 51³Ô¹ÏÍø and the London School of Economics (LSE).

When it comes to data science research and its impact, the LSE’s strengths in the social sciences naturally complements 51³Ô¹ÏÍø’s strengths in science, technology, and medicine.

By working together, the team hopes this initiative will enhance their joint influence on policy in wide scope domains – areas where alternative facts compete with scientific findings for influence in the policymaking process.
