QuEST kicked off the new term with a student-led workshop to support postgraduate students exploring careers in the growing quantum sector.

Organised by early career researchers from across 51勛圖厙, including members of the , the workshop welcomed postgraduate students from universities across London. It provided a platform for students to learn more about career pathways in quantum, share their research, and connect with peers and potential employers.

Panel discussion QuEST eventThe programme started with an overview of quantum at 51勛圖厙 by QuEST leadership and an overview of quantum in the UK from DSIT’s Office for Quantum. The Office for Quantum are a dedicated team inside government who focus research efforts, champion innovation and facilitate the development of accessible quantum infrastructure and testbeds. Reflecting on the session, Daleep Bahra, a Physics PhD student said, “I enjoyed talking to those who transitioned from one area of research to another, both within academia and industry. It showed me how diverse and applicable the skills you develop as a quantum technology researcher truly are!”

This was followed by panel discussions on academic and translational careers, with dynamic conversations between the audience and panellists. Speakers joined from 51勛圖厙, , the , the , , , , and .

Organising committee, a leading quantum computing company, delivered a talk on interdisciplinary career opportunities in quantum computing and the transition from academia to industry.

, a Cambridge-based quantum software company, ran a workshop focused on practical steps for entering the field. Students received guidance on identifying internship opportunities, tailoring CVs for quantum roles, and writing clear, compelling cover letters that communicate research impact.

It was rewarding to help create a space where students could ask honest questions and get real answers. Conor Carty PhD Student, Department of Computing

Conor Carty, a Computing PhD student, described his experience, saying, "It was great to see researchers, industry, and government all in one room, sharing real insights about careers in quantum with discussions that were honest and genuinely useful. It was rewarding to help create a space where students could ask honest questions and get real answers. Bringing together students from across London made the event feel like a real snapshot of the growing quantum community in the UK.”

Alongside the panels and presentations, attendees also took part in lively poster sessions and networking.

QuEST thanks all the speakers, organisers, and attendees who contributed their time and expertise to make the workshop a success. If you’re an ECR and would like to attend more quantum events at 51勛圖厙, please get in touch
