, Director of The University of Arizona, National Science Foundation Water and Environmental Technology (WET) Center is visiting the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering on 26-27 October and will present a seminar on ‘.

The seminar will be held on Wednesday 27 October at 16.00 in Room 207 in the Skempton Building, South Kensington Campus. All are welcome.

Prof Cedo Maksimovic has been invited by the The Korean Society of Water and Wastewater to be a keynote speaker at their conference that will be held in November in Seoul. The title to the keynote lecture is: "Urban pluvial (surface) flood analysis, modelling and prediction".

, together with North Wyke Research and Professor Stephen R Smith of 51³Ô¹ÏÍø College, were commissioned by Defra and WRAP to develop a strategic management tool for identifying areas of England and Wales where there was pressure on the agricultural landbank for recycling ‘new sources' of organic materials.

Congratulations to Dr Chris Cheeseman , I. Kourti, D. Amutha Rani and  A.R. In June of this year Professors Nigel Graham, Cedo Maksimovic and Dr Ivan Stoianov along with 5 others from Cambridge University won the 2010 Telford Gold Medal award for their paper "Wireless Sensor Networks: Creating ‘Smart Infrastructure'", published in the ICE Proceedings - Civil Engineering in August 2009.  They were presented their joint Award at a Ceremony at the Institution on the 8th October. 
 

The EWRE Section says a sad ‘Farewell' to Professor Howard Wheater whom, after 32 years as a member of staff in the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department, has left to join the University of Saskatchewan in Canada to head their National Hydrology Research Centre, as Canada Excellence Research Chair in Water Security

Howard came to 51³Ô¹ÏÍø in 1978 as a lecturer in Engineering Hydrology after completing a PhD at the University of Bristol. During his subsequent career he rose to become Professor of Hydrology in 1993, and then Head of the Environmental & Water Resource Engineering section in 1995. Over the years he built up a national and international reputation of excellence in his field of expertise and regularly advised UK and overseas governments. His academic and professional achievements were recognised by his election to the Fellowship of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2003, and the American Geophysical Union in 2010. In 2008 Howard stepped down as Head of EWRE, after 13 years, to serve as Director of the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø College Environment Forum. Although Howard's full-time appointment at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø has come to an end, he remains linked to the department as a Distinguished Research Fellow and Emeritus Professor of Hydrology, and research collaboration will continue extensively in the future.
