Staff and students are being invited to spring into action this March with a series of events and hands-on experiences for Sustainability Month.

From sustainable crafts sessions, to research showcases, film screenings, climate change courses, pot luck lunches and online competitions, Sustainability Month’s packed four-week event programme gravitates around three themes: 

• Creativity – Exploring sustainability through the arts and innovative solutions. 

• Community – Sharing ideas, tips and skills to tackle sustainability issues together. 

• Challenge – Sustainability-themed competitions and learning opportunities exploring the global sustainability challenges we face.

Spring into action

There are more than 15 events for staff and students being held across March. Among the highlights are:

• Grantham Institute Climate Research Showcase 2026
  Across an all-day exhibition, peer-led workshops and a flagship special lecture, the Climate Research Showcase is a space for dialogue and discovery. Participants will have the opportunity to profile their work, engage with renowned experts and broaden their networks through activities designed to spark curiosity and collaboration.
• Eco Arts Fair
  Join us in exploring sustainability through the arts! From poetry, to painting, to upcycling – come along and discover various creative techniques that can help us to be more sustainable.
• 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Sustainability Alumni Network (SAN) presents: Human Impacts of Climate Change
  Join the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Sustainability Alumni Network (SAN) for a thought-provoking online event exploring the human impact of climate change – from health and human rights to the future of decent work. Whether you’re working in sustainability, looking to grow your network, or simply curious about the topic, this is your chance to be part of a global conversation. 
• Sustainability workshops
  Join our sustainability workshop including a Climate Fresk and Climate Literacy session to learn foundational concepts of climate change: why it’s happening, the impact it has on people and nature, and what we can do about it.

Sustainability challenges
Enter our upcoming challenges throughout March for your chance to win awesome prizes! Whether you grab a buddy and take on our Sustainable Scavenger Hunt, share your sustainable actions with our social media challenge or jazz up your active travel route with Move's Strava Art challenge, get involved your way and play to win.

• Food and drink programmes such as the Green Team reusable container loyalty scheme; the Cheat on Meat ‘dis-loyalty card’ initiative; and the low carbon menu Senior Common Room on South Kensington Campus. 
• Sustainability-themed book displays from 9-22 March across Abdus Salam, Charing Cross, St Mary’s and Silwood libraries. 

An inspiring community

This year’s celebration is a supersized affair, with the annual event having grown in recent years from a week-long programme, to 2025’s Sustainability Fortnight, and now events spanning the entire month of March.  

“It’s fantastic to see our programme grow year on year and it demonstrates the momentum building around sustainability at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø,” says Jess Money, Sustainability Engagement & Administrative Coordinator, who is leading this year’s celebration. 

“Wherever you look, our community of students, staff, alumni, partners and leaders are bringing the energy and expertise we need to tackle global sustainability challenges together. This Sustainability Month, I hope everyone takes the chance to try something new, make connections with like-minded people, and inspire others to join the fun.”
