51³Ô¹ÏÍø honoured its first cohort of Sustainable 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Student Ambassadors at a special awards ceremony.
The Sustainable 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Student Ambassadors scheme which launched in October 2025, enables students to be recognised for the extra-curricular sustainability-related events they participate in.
Your involvement drives positive change not only at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø but beyond, as you carry your knowledge and experience into future roles and communities around the world. Professor Anna Korre Associate Provost (Sustainability)
Over the year, the first cohort of Sustainable 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Student Ambassadors have taken up enrichment opportunities such as attending sustainability webinars, workshops, trainings and networking sessions to boost their sustainability knowledge and meet like-minded people.
The Ambassadors have also put their learnings into practice to make a positive difference at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø and beyond by taking up empowerment opportunities such as assisting with pop-up stalls to raise awareness of sustainability topics, creating social media content to highlight Sustainable 51³Ô¹ÏÍø initiatives and conducting environmental audits including for 51³Ô¹ÏÍø’s Green Impact teams.
The Ambassadors have shown great dedication volunteering over 400 hours between them this year. Twenty-eight students qualified for a certificate and were recognised for their efforts at a special awards ceremony that took place on 8 June 2026 in the Main Entrance at South Kensington campus.
The celebration comes just weeks before the launch of the Sustainable 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Strategy (2026-2031) which will unveil plans to set a global benchmark for university sustainability. Register to attend the launch event on Tuesday 30 June.
At the Sustainable 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Student Ambassadors awards ceremony, we were joined by special guests Professor Anna Korre Associate Provost (Sustainability), and Professor Omar Matar, Head of Chemical Engineering, who commended the students for helping drive our sustainability agenda.
Professor Korre said: “Thank you to our Sustainable 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Student Ambassadors for your dedication. Your involvement drives positive change not only at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø but beyond, as you carry your knowledge and experience into future roles and communities around the world, helping us to maximize our positive handprint.”
Being part of this community of dedicated people actively building a more sustainable future gives me hope to continue doing the same. Yunxi Shen Sustainable 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Student Ambassador
Professor Matar added: "Your contributions as Sustainable 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Student Ambassadors have not only created a meaningful impact on both people and the planet, but have also supported your professional growth. Through this experience, you have developed valuable skills and gained strong examples to draw upon in interviews and throughout your future careers.”
Yunxi Shen, a Master’s student in Environmental Technology, also spoke at the event, sharing her experience as an Ambassador, and finished with a powerful message: “We all know that the planet is not in a great shape today. But being part of this community of dedicated people actively building a more sustainable future gives me hope to continue doing the same.”
