Make the most of the Careers Service this year!

We’re pleased to see so many of you already connecting with the Careers Service and particularly proud of the incredible turn out at the careers fairs we’ve hosted so far this term! With that in mind, we’d like to encourage you to keep exploring, engaging and excelling to ensure you all reach your professional potential.

Explore

Employer events provide you the opportunity to network, hear from employers and learn more about a particular industry. As well as our aforementioned careers fairs (don’t miss the Autumn Term Careers Fair happening Thursday 23 October), we also host Life in…Talks, Employer-led Skills Workshops and Recruiter in Residence sessions.

• Life in…Talks invite speakers, often alumni, to talk about their occupation and industry while sharing personal insights from their career journey and tips to help you succeed.
• Employer-led Skills Workshops are interactive and practical, helping participants to gain critical insights into a specific sector, understand recruitment processes and develop essential skills needed to secure a graduate role.
• Recruiter in Residence sessions offer students a chance to talk one-on-one with graduate recruiters about their organisation.

Engage

Seminars and workshops are an excellent environment in which to develop your professional skills. The Careers Service offers Career Essentials seminars and Career Labs workshops, hosted online and in-person.

• Career Essentials (50-60 minutes) covering: Application Forms, Assessment Centres, CVs and Cover Letters, Interviews, Finding a Job or Internship, LinkedIn, Part-time Work, Postgraduate Study, Psychometric Tests & Writing Effective Cover Letters
• Career Labs (90-120 minutes) covering: Case Studies, Interviews, Mock Assessment Centres, To PhD or Not to PhD

Excel

Competitions and awards are a great way to show employers what you can do and make unique additions to your CV. 

This is the perfect opportunity to highlight the whose applications are now open. There are twelve categories for the 2026 cohort, each partnered with an employer who provides a fantastic prize for the winner. This could include a paid internship, trip abroad or luxury goods. The submission deadline is Monday 26 January so there’s plenty of time to think carefully about your application. Feeling hesitant or unsure?
