Peter Burney

Professor Peter Burney

Professor Burney is Emeritus Professor of Respiratory Epidemiology at the National Heart and Lung Institute. He led research focused on the epidemiology of respiratory and allergic diseases, including asthma, food allergy and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Much of his work was carried out in multi-centre collaborations across several world regions.

Andre Amaral

Dr Andre Amaral (Project lead)

Dr Amaral is Associate Professor in Respiratory Epidemiology and Global Health at the National Heart and Lung Institute, where he leads a research group whose work focuses on understanding the causes of poor lung function and chronic lung disease in populations around the world. He is also interested in the mechanisms underlying differences in lung function across ethnic groups and multimorbidity associated with poor lung function. His goal is to contribute to the prevention of chronic lung disease and reduction of mortality worldwide.

Dr Amaral and Professor Burney with teams from Benin, Cameroon, Malawi, South Africa and Sudan during training week in Dar-es-Salaam
