The Aerosol Science Team's research aims to understand the sources and impacts of atmospheric particles, and what action can be taken to reduce these effects.

Research

The Aerosol Science Team’s research focuses on understanding the sources and impacts of atmospheric particles and identifying actions to mitigate these effects.

Research Areas:

  • Airborne Particulate Matter (Aerosols): A complex mixture of chemicals from various sources such as vehicle exhaust, industry, power generation, domestic fuel burning, and construction activities.
  • Advanced Measurement Techniques: Utilising highly time-resolved measurements to analyse aerosol physical and chemical characteristics, providing insights into source contributions and their impacts on human health and the environment.
  • Data Analysis: Combining measurements with advanced analytical tools to offer new perspectives on pollution sources, refine air pollution models, and assess population exposure.

Key Objectives:

  • Source Identification: Determining real-world pollution emissions and their contributions to atmospheric concentrations.
  • Exposure Assessment: Understanding human exposure to different pollutants in various environments.
  • Impact Analysis: Evaluating the effects of pollution on human health and the environment.

Education
