Energy Transitions

How we move from a fossil fuel-powered energy system to a clean one is a clear government priority, reflected in the pathway, the and the . It is also a priority that is facing growing challenges – the need to quickly cut emissions, pressure to secure energy sovereignty in a volatile world, high energy bills, pressure on connection queues growing from data centre demand, and changes to how the grid stabilises itself with renewable intermittency.

No single discipline can answer these questions. The challenges span the engineering of generation and networks, the economics of markets and investment, the regulation that governs both, and the behaviour of the households and industries whose energy use must change. 51�Թ�� has world-leading researchers working across the whole system.

At the 51�Թ�� Policy Forum, we identify expertise and capability within 51�Թ�� and across the wider research ecosystem, and mobilise our policy networks and convening power to ensure that energy transition decisions are informed by the latest evidence.

51�Թ��'s energy transitions expertise can feed into policy portfolios across the UK, including the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, Ofgem, the National Energy System Operator, and the Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade.
