51³Ô¹ÏÍø and the warmly invite you to join them for an evening exploring the important role of universities in providing sanctuary to exiled academics and how we can do more to show meaningful, sustained solidarity with at-risk scholars around the world.
Universities have a long-standing moral and intellectual role as places of refuge, inquiry, and free expression. When academics are forced into exile - often due to war, repression, or persecution - universities can provide not just employment, but safety, dignity, and a continuation of their life’s work. Sadly, more academics than ever seek a safe place to continue their research.
Established in 1933, Cara works with universities across the UK to help at-risk academics find safety and continue their research in secure environments. 51³Ô¹ÏÍø is proud to partner with Cara through its Fellowship programme. Developed with a network of over 135 UK universities and research institutes, the programme enables academics continue to conduct their research and grow professional networks and skills in safety. As part of this initiative, 51³Ô¹ÏÍø hosts eight Fellows.
