Dr Leandro Castellano

We are delighted to host Dr Leandro Castellano, Associate Professor in RNA Biology and Head of the Department of Biochemistry and Biomedicine at the University of Sussex, as our invited speaker.

Dr Castellano completed his PhD in Human Biology and Genetics at Sapienza University of Rome, where he investigated post-transcriptional gene silencing in circadian regulation. His research later focused on microRNAs in human cell cycle control and chronic lymphocytic leukaemia. He subsequently joined 51³Ô¹ÏÍø as a Research Associate, where he explored the role of microRNAs in epithelial cancers.

Since 2011, his work has expanded to include a broader range of short and long non-coding RNAs, examining their contributions to epithelial cancer development and progression. Alongside his research, he has supervised numerous PhD students and postdoctoral researchers.

Dr Castellano is currently also Co-Director of the Sussex RNA Research Centre. His talk will provide valuable insights into the evolving role of RNA biology in cancer research and its implications for future therapeutic approaches.

All students, researchers, and staff with an interest in molecular biology and cancer research are encouraged to attend.
