Global insight and local relevance

Faculty development is a strategic lever for institutional excellence, which drives educational quality, innovation, and workforce sustainability. Educator engagement, teaching consistency, and regulatory compliance requires a strategic approach to Faculty Development. Our Educational Partnerships Office will work with you to co-create sustainable, strategic and operational solutions that build capacity, enhance outcomes, and support educators to thrive.

Our Approach to Faculty Development

Partnering with our team gives you access to a wealth of expertise from within the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Faculty of Medicine including academics, clinical educators, consultants, and professional services who lead and contribute to our world class medical degrees. Faculty development arises in response to a wide range of different, but interconnected drivers; whatever your requirements, we can assist across a range of development needs.

We take a four-stage approach to meeting your faculty development needs.

Stages

Stage 1: Needs Assessment

Whether supporting a new school initiative or enhancing established medical programmes, we begin by identifying faculty development requirements through a comprehensive needs assessment. This process is designed to be rigorous yet proportionate. We tailor the depth of analysis to your context, ensuring efficiency while capturing meaningful insights. We use a blended range of document reviews, stakeholder interviews, and targeted surveys to provide a balanced perspective without unnecessary bureaucracy.

The aims of this are:

  • To understand the status of existing faculty development, including mapping provision, assessing strengths and evaluating existing CPD pathways.
  • To identify gaps, including unmet needs, future capabilities and any compliance requirements.
  • To identify training needs at the individual, team, and organisational levels, including informing educational and training packages, customising training to meet local needs.
  • To gather insights from key stakeholders to ensure the faculty development offer reflects real-world teaching practice and institutional priorities.
  • To develop a plan to evaluate educational outcomes and impact on delivery.

From this analysis, we will develop clear, actionable recommendations for your faculty development strategy and highlight where our team can partner with you to deliver high-impact faculty development solutions tailored to your medical programme. Our focus is to ensure that any recommended faculty development is aligned with your specific programme outcomes, curriculum reforms, and institutional strategy.

Stage 2: Faculty Development Design

Stage 3: Faculty Development Implementation

We want to ensure that we are strengthening your medical programmes by supporting you to own and deliver the faculty development programme. To get to this level of independence, we can deliver some or all your faculty development needs on a short- or medium-term basis, while your teams build the capacity and resources required to embed this into their “business as usual” in the long-term. We will provide training for your faculty development trainers to allow them to confidently deliver the programme, ensuring it fully aligns to the needs identified in the needs assessment.

Developing Medical Educators

We offer bespoke courses for medical educators – based in both your institution and externally, such as with your clinical partners – to empowering them to move from isolated teaching to informed, integrated contributions that elevate the quality of medical education. These courses can cover the design and context of undergraduate medical education, key pedagogies, modern assessment approaches, teaching and learning in the clinical and classroom environments, quality assurance in medical education, admissions and selection, medical student wellbeing, and much more. Depending on your requirements, courses can be designed for delivery at your own institution, at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø, virtually, or a hybrid approach of all three.

Stage 4: Evaluation

We ensure that your faculty development programme delivers measurable value across educational, operational and financial perspectives. Working with you, we design evaluation frameworks which tracks outcomes at programme, institutional and individual levels. Where metrics indicate areas for further development, we co-design interventions to support continuous and sustainable improvements, which ensures value for your investment.

Tailored Support and Impact

Our solutions accommodate diverse learning preferences and can include ongoing support and follow-up. This ensures sustained development and measurable impact over time.
