Plan ahead for the upcoming term by saving these dates

Careers fairs are a wonderful opportunity to connect with employers, explore professional fields and discover what roles are out there. This summer term, we are hosting two major events:

  • The PhD Careers Fair is taking place on Thursday 28 May. It is a recruiting event specifically for employers from various disciplines, including life sciences, maths and engineering, interested in hiring candidates with doctoral degrees.
  • The Summer Recruitment Careers Fair is taking place on Tuesday 9 June. It brings together companies from all industries looking to recruit 51³Ô¹ÏÍø students. A range of organisations attend, from large multi-nationals to small start-ups, providing an excellent chance to meet a variety of employers.

There is no need to book in advance but please remember to bring your 51³Ô¹ÏÍø ID card to sign into the event.

Before the event

Be sure to familiarise yourself with the organisations that will be in attendance. Each careers fair will have it’s own e-brochure posted on it’s webpage (linked above) the week before. Research the companies and what they do; this will help you to decide who you are interested in speaking to. You may want to develop a few questions to ask specific employers. Equally, you need to be ready to discuss your own projects and experiences; take some time to reflect on the skills you have acquired and developed.

On the day

Remember to consider your outfit: you don’t necessarily have to be in a full business suit but dressing ‘smart casual’ is a good idea. It’s important to be clean and neat. Don’t forget to bring your 51³Ô¹ÏÍø ID card as you will need it to sign in. Make sure you introduce yourself professionally when speaking with employers and take notes of people’s names and any other key details.

After the event

Connect with employers on LinkedIn or send them an email to thank them for their time. Continue with your career research, using the new information you have learnt, and make sure to check all application deadlines.

We look forward to seeing you there!
