This workshop brought together researchers and professional, technical and operational staff - many of them for the first time.
The aims of this workshop were to:
- Identify why it matters, in research and society, for data to be open, transparent and high-quality
- Identify domain-specific challenges, barriers and opportunities in engaging with Open Data practices at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø
Session one: Fostering a Culture of Open Research
Ian Walmsley, Provost of 51³Ô¹ÏÍø, introduced Open Research at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø, why it matters and how this project aligns with 51³Ô¹ÏÍø's strategy and vision.
Session two: Openness and Scrutiny in Data Science
Chris Gullick, Chief Data and Artificial Intelligence Officer, Ofgem, introduced the overall topic: why do we need openness and transparency of research data, what does it mean for data to be high-quality, what are the general challenges of embedding open data practices and quality?
Session three: Data in Decision-Making and Society
Hamid Khan, Open Research Manager at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø, introduced the opportunities and challenges of using data in decision-making, why reliability matters, and what the ideal of reliable tools might look like.
