Department of Mechanical Engineering

Lead Staff partner(s): Dr Linda Stringer

Student partner(s):  Ali Zubair and Dionysus Christyselvarajah

Project area: Curriculum Development

Background for project

This project involves designing and creating two bespoke, hands-on demonstration resources to support recruitment and outreach activities. Drawing on a student partner’s experience as a departmental ambassador, the project will develop interactive demos focused on gear ratios and resonance, accompanied by roll-up banners and a clear explanatory script for ambassadors to use with non-specialist audiences. The aim is to improve prospective students’ understanding of core mechanical engineering concepts, enhance engagement at open days and outreach events, and support informed degree choices. Designed for long-term use (3–5 years), the resources will benefit future recruitment activities across the department and wider 51³Ô¹ÏÍø, while giving student partner valuable experience in educational design, communication, and practical engineering work.

This project is due to run Summer 2026 – watch this space for outputs and outcomes!
