Lost in (Research) Translation: on the power of storytelling to move science from the bench to the world
This event took place on Monday 8 June 2026, , Accra, 18.00–20.30. The recording will be posted shortly.
The world needs science more than ever. Climate, disease, food, artificial intelligence – the challenges defining this century require public understanding, political will, and trust in evidence. So why does so much research never make it past the journal?
Brought to you by 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Global Ghana, Lost in (Research) Translation is a live debate about who carries science from the page to the public, and whether the right people are doing it. Journalists were trained for this. Creators have built the audiences. Scientists hold the knowledge but rarely the microphone. And as the complexity of global challenges grows, so does the question: should scientists themselves pick up the tools of creators to make their work travel? Can a viral explainer carry the same weight as an edited, verified report? Who is best placed to reach the most people, with the most accurate analysis, and actually engage the ones who need it most?
Three perspectives. One motion. A live audience debating the future of science storytelling.
