EPSRC University Doctoral Landscape Award: funding mini-cohorts of doctoral students working at the interface of medical and physical sciences. PhD projects to commence from October 2026.

The Faculty of Medicine at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø is delighted to offer a number of PhD studentships funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) University Doctoral Landscape Award. Each PhD studentship will be a distinct research project that contributes towards the aims of the wider collaborative research programme within the of research priorities.

EPSRC University Doctoral Landscape Award PhD students will join a mini-cohort of researchers, undertake mandatory core skills training, have access to professional development opportunities and cohort-based activities. Each mini-cohort will be steered by a cohort lead and each PhD student will have a supervisory team from across 51³Ô¹ÏÍø's world-class academic departments. 

EPSRC PhD students will be based in the Faculty of Medicine and will benefit from an exceptional student experience including:-

  • cohort training workshops
  • placements/internships
  • cohort-wide lab/group meetings
  • networking with wider collaborative research groups
  • access to a broad suite of Early Career Research Institute (ECRI) training courses
  • one-to-one coaching and mentoring
