The university is a signatory of the and the , a reflection of our ambition to support the career development of researchers, technicians and the different roles that contribute to research. There is a wide range of development opportunities for both staff and students at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø, and a dedicated team in the Early Career Researcher Institute (ECRI) delivering award-winning and sector-leading training to support the professional and career development of our researchers, including guidance and training in leadership and management, and providing a good supervisory experience for our doctoral students.

We also have a number of staff award schemes recognising the achievements of staff at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø.  These awards are for all staff, at all levels, across research, teaching and professional services roles, who have demonstrated a valuable contribution to our mission.

As a signatory of the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (), 51³Ô¹ÏÍø is committed to ensuring that we will not consider journal-based metrics, such as journal impact factors (JIFs), in assessing the research achievements of staff or candidates for recruitment.
